FAQ

Questions, answered

Is ReInvestWealth CRA-certified for GST/HST netfile filing?

Yes. ReInvestWealth is CRA-certified for electronic GST/HST netfile filing. You can complete and file your GST/HST return directly through ReInvestWealth. No need to log into the CRA's separate netfile portal.

How much is HST in Ontario?

Ontario HST is 13% (5% federal GST plus an 8% provincial component). ReInvestWealth applies the correct rate for your province automatically when calculating your HST owing. If you sell in multiple provinces, you can configure the applicable rates for each.

Does ReInvestWealth support QST filing for Quebec businesses?

Yes. Quebec businesses registered for both GST and QST (Quebec Sales Tax, also called TVQ) can manage both filings inside ReInvestWealth. The QST workflow runs alongside the standard GST filing process. Quebec sales tax (QST) is 9.975% on most taxable supplies.

Does ReInvestWealth handle PST for BC, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan?

Yes. ReInvestWealth supports all Canadian sales taxes, with the correct tax applied for your province. GST, HST, and QST returns are e-filed directly from the app; PST returns for BC, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan are prepared from your books, ready for you to file manually.

Which GST/HST adjustments are handled automatically?

Common adjustments are applied for you from your categorized transactions, including meals and entertainment (50%), vehicle operating costs, and leases. ReInvestWealth calculates the GST/HST you collected from clients and the GST/HST you paid on purchases, then applies these adjustments to the return.

Do I still have to file a GST/HST return if I had no sales?

Yes. Once you're registered, the CRA expects a return for every filing period, even a nil return with no sales and no tax owing. ReInvestWealth still generates the return for the period from your books, so filing a nil return takes the same few clicks.

What happens if I file my GST/HST return late?

The CRA charges a late-filing penalty on balances owing, plus daily compound interest until the amount is paid. Filing on time avoids the penalty even if you can't pay right away. ReInvestWealth tracks your filing periods and shows every pending return with its due date, so deadlines don't slip.

Do I charge GST/HST to clients outside Canada?

Generally no. Most exports of goods and services to non-resident clients are zero-rated, meaning you charge 0% GST/HST, but those sales still appear on your return. The rules have exceptions, so if you sell across borders regularly, you can book a CPA consultation through ReInvestWealth to confirm your setup.

When do I have to register for GST/HST?

Registration becomes mandatory once your worldwide taxable sales pass $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters, or in a single quarter. Below that you're a small supplier and registration is optional, though registering voluntarily lets you claim back the GST/HST you pay on business purchases (input tax credits). ReInvestWealth works either way, before and after you register.

What are the GST/HST filing deadlines?

Filing deadlines depend on your frequency. Annual filers: generally June 15 (for most calendar-year businesses). Quarterly filers: 1 month after the quarter ends (April 30, July 31, October 31, January 31). Monthly filers: 1 month after each month ends. ReInvestWealth tracks your periods and shows a pending return when each one closes.

Why isn't my GST/HST return showing in ReInvestWealth?

A pending GST/HST netfile return only appears after your filing period has closed. If you registered mid-period, or if your fiscal year just started, you won't see a return yet. It will appear when that period ends. This is the most common question our support team receives.

Do I need an HST number to use ReInvestWealth?

No. You can use ReInvestWealth to manage your bookkeeping without being registered for GST/HST. You only need to enter your HST number if you're registered and want to use the sales tax filing workflow.
